London Center - Rome

Back to London Center Gallery | Back to all pictures

Rome was actually mostly spent at Vatican City and St. Peter's. Even though there wasn't a single Catholic in the group, we made it out early for the weekly Papal audience, took in St. Peter's and the Sistine Chapel, then took off for a walk though the Colliseum, Palatine Hill, the Spanish Steps and the Pantheon.

Vatican City. To the front and right: the Pope giving his weekly audience. Behind me I bought a rosewood rosary and a Pope bottle opener.

St. Peter's Square

Interior of St. Peter's. There are larger buildings in the world, but I doubt that there's any that feel bigger than this.

Behind the flash is the Pietra, which will stop you in your tracks. Other sculptures are called 'Pietra' - this is the one referred to as THE Pietra.

Il Colliseo, to the left of the arch is an excellent gelato stand

Palatine hill

A moment in (on) marble.

The spanish steps. Moments later the camera died.
