London Center - Salzburg Back to London Center Gallery | Back to all pictures Salzburg was a welcome break towards the end of Fall break; behind us was Florence, ahead of me (and John when he arrived) was Vienna. It was one of my favorite spots the first time I traveled through Europe. It's a garden spot in the middle of the Alps with plenty to see and do in-town without feeling rushed. The apex (pardon the pun) is the fortress next to the main square. It's a hard walk up but well worth it; from the front you can look down over the town, watching people on the life-size chessboard, from the back you're looking out into a valley and where the mountains pick back up. I spent the afternoon at the restaurant atop the fortress enjoying the schnitzel and taking in the view.
